Side Dish Fundraiser
CHAPEL HILL -- Deep Dish Theater Company will present its second Side Dish fundraising benefit , following last year's sellout event, on January 18 and 19. This year Side Dish adopts a feminine perspective with a series of vignettes featuring women dealing with funny, touching, sad and downright odd slices of life. The evening will begin with a champagne reception at 7:30 p.m., followed by the show at 8 p.m. and a post-show reception.
The Side Dish Fundraiser will be directed again this year by Deep Dish board member Jeri Lynn Schulke, a frequent actor with Deep Dish who most recently appeared in The Gratitude of Wasps and Orson's Shadow. A graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill's MFA Professional Actor Training Program, she has also appeared in numerous productions in the Triangle with PlayMakers Repertory Company, Flying Machine Theater Company and Burning Coal Theatre Company.
"What struck me about these pieces is that each contains an element of surprise," said Schulke. "For the most part each piece is funny but that's a deceiving device. You get caught up in the laughter and then 'boom' you're hit with something you weren't expecting. Whether that something is poignant, insightful, shocking or scary, there's more there than you expect."
The cast will include Schulke and other actresses familar to Deep Dish audiences, such as Nicole Farmer (The Rivals, The Misanthrope), Angela Ray (Permanent Collection, The Rivals), Anne-Caitlin Donohue (Private Lives, The Rivals), Joyce Weiser (Marvin's Room), and Julia Yarwood (The Gratitude of Wasps).
