THE CLEAN HOUSE

A lovely and often riotous comedy about a young Brazilian woman and the people whose house she tends, this play established MacArthur Award-winner Ruhl as one of the most exciting and imaginative new voices in the American theater.

The Deep Dish Book Selection, "How the Garcia Girls Lost Their Accents" by Julia Alvarez, will be discussed on Thursday, May 22 at 6:30 p.m. The talk will take place in Tyndall Galleries in University Mall. The discussion will be led by Drs. Evelyn Daniel and David Carr and is free and open to the public. HOW I GOT THAT STORY

August 23 – September 15

An “embedded” war reporter tries to get a handle on a culture he doesn’t know while covering a conflict he doesn’t understand. A fiercely theatrical comedy of nightmare proportions.

The Deep Dish Book Selection, "Last One In" by Nicholas Kulish, will be discussed on Thursday, September 13 at 6:30 p.m. The talk will take place in Tyndall Galleries in University Mall. The discussion will be led by Drs. Evelyn Daniel and David Carr and is free and open to the public.

A LESSON FROM ALOES

by Athol Fugard, directed by Joan Darling
October 18 – November 10

Three long-time friends, split apart by the machinations of the apartheid regime, meet for dinner amid suspicion that one of them is a traitor to their revolutionary cause. A haunting work by South Africa’s leading playwright.

The Deep Dish Book Book Selection for this production is Disgrace, by Nobel Prize-winner J.M. Coetzee. Time Magazine hailed it as a “subtly brilliant commentary on the nature and balance of power in his homeland... by a writer at the top of his form.” A discussion of the book, free and open to the public, will be held at 6:30 p.m., prior to the performance on Thursday, November 8. Favorite actresses from the Deep Dish Theater Company will appear in a series of vignettes featuring women from all walks of life dealing with funny, touching, sad and downright odd slices of life. The two-night-only event
will benefit the theater.


STATE OF THE UNION

February 14 – March 8

A shrewd, witty, and surprisingly contemporary look at politics, as a business tycoon and his family contemplate a run for the Presidency. Winner of the 1946 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

The Deep Dish Book Book Selection for this production is Primary Colors, by Anonymous (aka Joe Klein). Publishers Weekly says this thinly disguised look at the first Clinton presidential campaign "stands as a definitive political novel for these uneasy times." A discussion of the book, free and open to the public, will be held at 6:30 p.m., prior to the performance on Thursday, March 6. Staged Reading of THE ICE-BREAKER

a new play by David Rambo

March 26-30

co-produced with PlayMakers Repertory Company


The new comedy/drama from David Rambo, the author of "God's Man in Texas" and a writer/producer for television's "CSI," will be presented as a staged reading, directed by Paul Frellick and featuring Helen Hagan and Tom Marriott. All seats $7. Performances are at 7:30 PM on Wednesday and Thursday, 8 PM on Friday and Saturday, and 2 PM on Sunday.
